GENERAL SUMMARY:

  • The Department of Behavioral Sciences is seeking a research assistant for the Traumatic Stress Center and Center for Women's Behavioral and Mental Health. This person is responsible for administering research protocols for multiple studies examining the impact of traumatic stress on physical and mental health. Ongoing projects include 1) a multidisciplinary treatment trial for pregnant urban women with a history of interpersonal trauma, 2) an intervention study examining psychobiological risk and resilience mechanisms of post-trauma psychopathology, 3) a study examining the comorbidity of PTSD and pain, 4) a study examining the use of self-help for patients waiting to receive psychotherapy, and 5) development of a trauma-sensitive intervention for patients with cancer. Duties include participant recruitment, participant interviews, managing lab equipment, conducting literature reviews, ensuring ethical and quality compliance to IRB-protocols, ensuring patient confidentiality, and data processing and analysis. This position is ideally suited to individuals who wish to pursue graduate training in psychology or a related field.

  • This person is responsible for administering research protocols for multiple ongoing projects in the Center for Traumatic Stress and the Center for Women's Behavioral and Mental Health. This person will work with multiple PIs, gain exposure to urban trauma populations, develop skills in patient communication and communication with multidisciplinary research teams, and gain experience in the conduct of psychological research. This person should be willing to commit at least 2 years to the role. 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participant recruitment, scheduling, and interviewing.

  • Administering lab protocols 3) Collaborating with the Emergency Department and OB/GYN clinic staff.

  • Maintain data integrity and ensure participant compliance and informed consent.

  • Report regularly to project coordinators in regard to assigned duties or other study procedures as needed.

  • Manage databases and assist with data analysis.

  • Assist the PIs in completing paperwork as needed for the IRB.

  • Conduct literature reviews and assist with compiling references for papers
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Knowledge:  
  • Must have at least a bachelor's degree in psychology or a related field.

  • Skills and Abilities: Good organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Strong interpersonal skills are needed to interact with the participants as well as health professionals in medicine and nursing.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with project coordinators to keep them updated. A history of involvement with Chicago or other urban minority communities is beneficial.

  • Familiarity with MS Office Suite and SPSS is strongly preferred. Prior research experience in psychology or a related field is strongly preferred.

Advertised Summary Job DescriptionThe Research Assistant will be responsible for the creation of study specific tools for source documentation when not provided by sponsor. Assists in recruitment efforts. Maintains research records including screening/enrollment log and regulatory files. Enter study visits in study manager. Schedules sponsor monitoring visits. Schedules follow up visits within windows specified by the protocol. Conducts follow up telephone calls as applicable. Abstracts data from medical records, clinic, consultation, and referral notes to study forms and record onto case report forms; maintains source documentation for all case report entries. Generates and tracks drug shipments, device shipments and supplies as needed. Collects, completes, and enters data into study specific case report forms or electronic data capture systems. Resolves data queries. Prepares for monitoring visits by ensuring research and regulatory binders are complete and accurate. In collaboration with the Regulatory Manager, maintains IRB approval documents; ensure RASCAL attached documents are correct and current, that outdated documents are archived and that all applicable staff have access to most recent recruitment materials, including the informed consent document in Spanish and English. In collaboration with the Regulatory Manager, ensures protocol events (modifications, renewal, unanticipated problems, terminations) are submitted to the IRB and approval documentation is in place. Communicates all protocol-related issues to appropriate study personnel or manager. Other responsibilities as assigned.  
Minimum Qualifications for Grade

Requires a bachelor's degree and at least 1.5 years of related experience or equivalent in education, training and experience.

The candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to a final offer of employment being made.
