Position Highlights: 
The Social Neuroscience and Psychopathology lab directed by Dr. Christine Hooker, PhD at Rush University Medical Center is seeking to hire a research assistant for a two-year full-time commitment.  

Position Responsibilities:

The research assistant will be responsible for assisting with study coordination including, but not limited to, recruiting and testing participants, collecting behavioral and neuroimaging data, assisting in both structural and functional MRI scans of patient populations, data entry, and preparation of manuscripts, presentations, and/or grants.  

Successful candidates will be expected to be able to take initiative and work well both independently and on a team.  Many of our projects are time-sensitive, so the ability to organize, prioritize, and complete tasks is a critical skill. Study populations that the research assistant may be working with include: schizophrenia, autism spectrum, clinical and genetic high risk for schizophrenia and autism spectrum disorders, adults, adolescents, and children. 

This position offers valuable research experience in preparation for graduate school in clinical psychology, neuroscience, or medicine.  Research assistants in this lab will gain unique experience in cutting-edge scientific techniques in neuroimaging as well as the opportunity to contribute to the development of neuroscience-based interventions for psychiatric populations. 

Position Qualifications Include: 

Completion of a Bachelor's Degree or higher in a field related to health sciences.

Academic and/or research background in psychology, neuroscience, education, or related field.

Excellent organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving and logic ability skills.

Must be able to focus on tedious mental tasks with great accuracy.  There is a great amount of clerical and data entry work for this position that have deadlines and require a high level of accuracy.

Ability to obtain clinical information from Rush based patient care systems as required for the performance of duties and responsibilities.

Basic technical and quantitative skills.

Experience with Excel, Matlab, and/or SPSS.

Experience with neuroimaging is strongly preferred 

Organizational Contacts and Purpose:
This position interacts with various departments and sections within the Rush community and may include Purchasing, Finance, RCTA, Environmental Safety, Environmental Services, Office of Research Services, Institutional Review Board, etc.  In addition, this position involves working closely with the sponsors of government and industry-funded studies. 

Judgement and Complexity:
This position may be required to perform submissions for budget and contract review, as well as applications to the IRB for new studies.  This may include submission of amendments, revised consent documents, safety information and any other items requiring IRB review and approval. The person in this position is also required to be familiar with Good Clinical Practices as set forth by the FDA to ensure standards are met for conducting clinical trials including protection of human subjects and obligations of investigators.
