Principal contribution is providing routine or standardized laboratory or administrative duties and collecting routine data in support of research projects under direct supervision. Collects and enters data. Assists in analyzing data. Assists with the preparation of reports and manuscripts. Maintains and orders supplies. Responsibilities may include the following non-laboratory duties: recruiting and scheduling research subjects; transcribing and coding data; assisting with developing data collection tools; managing data files; and providing general administrative support. Responsibilities may include the following laboratory duties: assisting lab members in preparing and conducting experiments; following established procedures or protocols, provides assistance to supervisor with research projects; performing basic laboratory techniques; assisting with maintaining, behavioral testing and/or surgical preparation of animals.  
About the Unit
The Center for Personalized Therapeutics researches 
pharmacogenomics on two levels: Discovery and implementation. Research assistants work on an ongoing implementation project which provides a system for clinicians to use patients' genetic information when making medication decisions. 
 
Unit Job Summary
The research assistant role is focused on a personalized medicine clinical research study. Responsibilities include interviewing and consenting subjects for participation, arranging collection of blood samples, data collection, data entry and data analysis. Other tasks include preparing summaries of data and related literature related to the current research, and help in the generation of reports, 
posters, abstracts, and articles related to the research project. These positions are a wonderful opportunity for those anticipating pursuing a degree in Medicine. 
 
Education
Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the research being 
conducted or completed by start date is required. Relevant undergraduate or post-graduate research experience is 
preferred. Dedication to a future career as a health professional, or a career in medical research is preferred. 
 
Experience
Basic knowledge in relevant scientific field is required.  
Competencies
Excellent problem solving, organizational and analytical skills are required. Attention to detail is required. 
Ability to learn new research techniques or methods is required. Ability to stay self-directed and work independently as well as cooperatively with other members of the research team is required. Ability to communicate with patients, physicians, and staff in a variety of clinical settings required. Ability to conduct literature reviews and ability to organize, maintain, and analyze large data sets is required. 
Knowledge of Microsoft Office is preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills is preferred.
