| Responsibilities GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: The full time Research Assistant (RA) will help with a multi-site project to determine the effectiveness of incorporating evidence-based fall prevention strategies to reduce the risk of serious fall injuries among older persons in the community practice setting. The RA will support all activities associated with the execution of the project including recruiting/screening both English and Spanish speaking participants, primary data collection, data cleaning, data management, and providing administrative/logistical support for focus groups and literature searches. The RA will also be responsible for monitoring and executing Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions. The RA's responsibilities will also include administrative tasks and other duties as assigned. Access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license is required for travel to practice sites to meet and work with the nurse assigned to the project. Proficiency in both English and Spanish is required. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Using MS Access will assist in data collection efforts, database development, and descriptive data analysis. (In-house MS Access training is available.) • May perform data collection from a variety of sources, including patient medical records, and hospital clinical information systems. • Recruits and screens both English speaking and Spanish speaking study participants. • Performs general topic searches and specialized database searches. Retrieves journal articles from the Internet or library. Maintains a bibliographic library of supporting material. • May assist with the preparation of formal research reports and manuscripts for publication in professional journals. Will assist with grant progress reports. Strong writing skills helpful. • Helps with the preparation of talks and presentation materials including PowerPoint slides, and tables and graphs. • Photocopying, electronic mailing, receiving and sending mail, scheduling meetings and conference calls, taking minutes at meetings and on conference calls, faxing, scanning, and other administrative duties as required. • Will assist with preparing the forms for submission and obtaining approval from the Internal Review Board (IRB) for the study protocols. • Will support project management activities to help keep projects proceeding efficiently. • Access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license is required for travel to practice sites. • Proficiency in both English and Spanish is required. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor’s Degree and an interest in healthcare, improvement of healthcare processes, and the use of technology to support clinical care. • Certification in the protection of human research subjects (can be obtained after hire) • Competency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and database software. • Experience with data management, including using word-processing, spreadsheet, MS Access database software and EndNote preferred. • Access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license is required for travel to practice sites. • Proficiency in both English and Spanish is required. WORKING CONDITIONS: Professional office. Travel to practices required, but not every day.
