| The Research Assistant will work under the supervision of the Deputy Director of the Clinical Neurosciences Division (CND) of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs National Center for PTSD and Yale Department of Psychiatry. The Research Assistant will provide support for all aspects of ongoing projects in the Translational Psychiatric Epidemiology Laboratory of the CND. Specific tasks will include coordination and implementation of all psychosocial, cognitive, and basic physical assessment procedures; creation and management of all study databases; data cleaning, and conducting and summarizing results of basic data analyses; conducting literature reviews and preparing annotated bibliographies; assisting in the preparation of conference presentations and manuscripts; and coordinating meetings and phone teleconferences of the study team. The individual will also be responsible for maintaining correspondence with institutional review boards and funding agencies. | |
| 1. Researches and collects data through site or home visit intakes; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for research projects. 2. Interprets, synthesizes, and analyzes data using scientific or statistical techniques. Modifies and plans research experiments, procedures, tests, or survey instruments. Assists in research design. 3. Writes and edits material for publication and presentation. Reports on status of research activities. Oversees and instructs research and support staff on technical procedures, equipment operation, and laboratory maintenance. 4. Schedules and coordinates research activities. Identifies and recruits study participants. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. 5. May assist in preparing financial information and monitoring budgets. 6. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities. | |
| Two years of related work experience in the same job family and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education. | |
| Demonstrated attention to detail with ability to maintain participant files and source documents for completeness, identify and resolves discrepancies in records, track study trends and provide study progress summaries as appropriate. | |
| Proficiency with statistical computer programs (e.g. SAS, SPSS) and database programs (e.g., MS Access, Excel) to construct and manage study data sets and databases relevant to research projects. | |
| Demonstrated ability with data management, including developing conventions for managing incomplete data sets, running query checks and resolve edits and out of range values, documenting all processes. | |
| Ability to maintain data systems designed to ensure that databases used for the research project comply with administrative policies, procedures and requirements set forth by the Research Office, Institutional Review Boards, Office of Research Oversight and the data security guidelines. | |
| Experience with psychosocial and cognitive testing procedures for studies; performs basic physical assessment procedures (e.g., heart rate, blood pressure monitoring). | |
| Minimum Bachelor's-level degree in health-related discipline and two years of research experience. | |
| Nursing licensure (RN or LPN) - Preferred not required. | |
