Overview:
To oversee one research study and perform all aspects of patient contact related to that study (i.e., recruiting, scheduling, performing all patient tests and completing all documentation as outlined by the protocol and required by the Strelitz Diabetes Research Center (SOP’s) under the direction of the Director of the Microvascular Biology Lab.  This includes phlebotomy and processing of specimens, ECG’s, vital signs, and various tests of nerve function.  To work with the clinical research team on various other clinical study protocols as needed and to perform these same procedures as ordered by the Director of Research on patients seen for consultation and treatment in the Neuroendocrine Unit.

Responsibilities:
  • Screen and recruit patients through chart reviews, phone calls, attendance at lectures, health fairs, etc. 
  • Schedule all study visits according to the protocol.
  • Prepare chart materials and source documents.
  • Perform phlebotomy, processing and shipping of specimens.
  • Perform vital signs and ECG’s.
  • Perform tests of nerve function, such as nerve conduction studies, quantitative sensory testing, autonomic nervous system testing, and skin blood flow.
  • Prepare for and assist with skin biopsies.
  • Assist with physical exams.
  • Complete paperwork as required.
  • Perform database entry and assist with analysis of data.
  • Transcribe data onto case report forms, if required.
  • Perform assays on serum or interstitial fluid, if required.
  • Maintain and calibrate equipment.
  • Inventory and order supplies as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in biological science or related field.  Some experience working with patients is preferred.  Basic laboratory skills preferred.
