The Diabetes Care Center has an outstanding opportunity for a part-time (80% FTE Research Study Assistant.  The Diabetes Care Center conducts clinical research for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.   The Research Study Assistant will work on a couple ongoing studies: a study called REPLACE which is looking at the use of a real time glucose sensor vs finger stick glucose in making insulin decisions and a study called LEXICON which is an adjunct hormone study in improving after meal blood glucose.  This position will download devices (eg. glucose meters, insulin infusion pumps and glucose sensors), assist in interviewing patients, process labs, as well as verify data and perform data entry.  

Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • An ability to prioritize, coordinate and perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment 
  • Work with  principle investigators, coordinating center, and study coordinators to facilitate clinical research study implementation and completion. 
  • Conduct study visit functions when required by study coordinators. 
  • Prepare and refine study documents using Microsoft Word, Excel, PDF, and CSV files formats. 
  • Work with and understand electronic data capture systems including Medidata, InForm, and JAEB data collection system. 
  • Enter and access data in EMRs including: Epic, Mindscape, and Cerner (ORCA) 
  • Use diabetes device software to facilitate study visits and data collection including: Tidepool, Medtronic Carelink, Glucofacts, My Glucohealth, Dexcom Studio and My HealthPoint. 
  • Recruit and interface with patients in clinical research environment. 
  • Order, manage, and project needs for research supplies to ensure adequate availability for study operations.  Use electronic inventory systems provided by study sponsors including Covance, JAEB, and ICON. 
  • Complete, as necessary, study specific training including dry ice certification, Good Clinical Practices, Protecting Human Research Participants, EDC (electronic data capture) specific trainings, and other training as required by study needs. 
  • Collect, process, package, and ship study samples using lab and study equipment. 
  • Update and maintain research study schedules for both the research team and participants 
  • Schedule  study visits to comply with study protocol and PI and study coordinator availability. 
  • Excellent organization and communication skills (oral and written) are necessary to provide service – in person and on the phone – to research coordinators, office staff and research subjects. Must be able to work both independently and as a team player and to coordinate multiple tasks. Must possess ease with computing in Microsoft Windows environment, familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Word, Access and Excel) and additional tools of an electronic office (FAX, email, web browsing, etc.).

  • REQUIREMENTS:
  • Two years of college-level course work in a relevant academic area AND one year of appropriate experience OR equivalent education/experience.
