Duties:
RESEARCH ASSISTANT: DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHIATRY / DR. NANCY ANDREASEN LAB
BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
Assist in the performance of psychiatric research by gathering information and assisting in the preparation of material for inclusion in publications; administer tests and/or questionnaires and compile results; and to collect, tabulate and assist in the processing of data.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in the coordination of research activities with human participants, including data collected in a longitudinal study that has the following information: standardized psychiatric interviews, surveys, cognitive testing, and neuroimaging and bio-marker data.
  • Assist in the collection of neuroimaging data by working with a multi-disciplinary team to assure quality assured data acquisitions and smooth study operations.
  • Coordinate all elements of research visits, including scheduling, preparation, visit day facilitation, documentation and follow-up.  Perform basic and complex procedures and techniques as outlined in research protocol, assure fidelity to protocols.
  • Conduct statistical analyses of data from imaging and clinical studies.
  •  Assist in preparing publications and presentations.
  • Perform QA/QC and audit checks of self and others data in varying DSM studies.
  • Submissions of IRB applications and will be responsible for safety programs by following guidelines and maintaining required documentation.
Education Required:
  • B.S. Degree in biological sciences or equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience.
Experience Required:
  • 1-3 years’ research experience in the field of psychiatry is required.
  • Requires a high degree of attention to detail and a high level of organizational skills.
  • Requires experience working with electronic databases and spreadsheets.
  • Requires excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Requires experience performing routine lab maintenance tasks.
  • Requires experience training lab personnel and/or students.
Desirable Qualifications:
HIGHLY DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience running MRI protocols.
  • Experience in analyzing FMR data using AFNI
  • Experience in SAS programming and statistical analyses
  • Familiarity with genetic data and concepts
  • Familiarity with University of Iowa policies and procedures.
