maintain on-going regulatory requirements 

Provide information and feedback on

protocol operations within the institution.

NEUROLOGY RESEARCH ASSISTANT COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY

The candidate will work with the Department of Neurology, Taub Institute on clinical studies involving patients with Alzheimer's disease and dementia with Lewy bodies and healthy volunteers. First, the research assistant (RA) under the supervision and direction of the Principal Investigator will help develop the protocols and submit to the institutional review boards for approval. Then, the RA will be trained to perform a battery of neuropsychological tests. They will assist in setting up and maintaining databases the studies. The research assistant will recruit and schedule subjects for initial and follow-up evaluations. The RA will meet with the recruited subjects, assist in obtaining informed consent from the subjects, administer a neuropsychological test battery along with cognitive and health status interviews. The RA will then input all of the data collected into a computerized database. The RA will also accompany research participants to neuroimaging procedures (MRI and PET scans). The RA will assist the Principal Investigator in regulatory compliance by preparing submissions to the Columbia University Medical Center IRB and to the FDA. Opportunities are available for training in PET image analysis and other analytic research procedures. 

Minimum Qualifications for Grade

Requires a bachelor's degree and at least 1.5 years of related experience or equivalent in education, training and experience. 

Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications 
Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant 

a. Verbal and written fluency in English. Fluency in Spanish is a plus. 
b. Good communication, interpersonal skills and be able to work with healthy volunteers and patients with cognitive impairment. 
c. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision 
d. Knowledge in researching literature applicable to the field 
e. Ability to present experimental data to principal investigator 
f. Ability to use computers and learn new programs to collect data for a computer-based database; Must have basic typing skills, experience in data entry, MS-WORD, Excel and internet use 
g. Ability to learn and perform standardized neurodevelopmental tests 
h. Ability to perform work in a neat and orderly manner in accordance with safety regulations 
i. Will require training modules in IRB-approved courses such as Columbia University's Human Subjects Protection and HIPAA training modules
