Position summary

Clinical Research Assistant (Job Opening 418525) - Clinical Research Assistant
to provide support to the Clinical Trials Office within the Comprehensive
Cancer Center; reviews medical records and assists with data extraction,
entry, and submission; assists with scheduling and conducting monitoring
 visits and query resolution; requests medical records and images;
 responds to inquiries from study participants; assists with bio-specimen
processing; assists with tissue requests; schedules patients for research
appointments; performs other duties as assigned by project leader or management.

Education and experience

Bachelors degree in general biology, or an equivalent combination of
education & experience required; experience in a clinical research
capacity or setting desired; human subjects training and experience
in a clinical and/or research setting working with patients desired;
computer skills required with experience utilizing Microsoft software
 applications desired; considerable experience utilizing database applications
 desired. Requires successful completion of a background check;
qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment
 physical including a drug screen.

Description

Assists the research team in the implementation and conduct of clinical trails per federal, state and institutional guidelines by performing tasks delegated by research team members including investigators, managers and coordinators. Responsibilities during all phases of trials from pre-study implementation through study closure are included in the scope of this position.

Job Functions

I. Assists with the implementation and conduct of clinical research projects as delegated to assure successful achievement of quality, safety, regulatory, and financial outcomes. This may include responsibilities such as:

¹ Preparing Institutional Review Board (IRB) materials and communications

² Maintaining regulatory binders

³ Recruiting and retaining study subjects

⁴ Research billing compliance

⁵ Performing procedures and collecting data

⁶ Query resolution

II. Performs specific technical tasks/procedures and records data as assigned. These responsibilities may include:

¹ Performing phlebotomy and collecting blood samples

² Collecting urine samples

³ Handling, processing and shipping laboratory samples

⁴ Performing and recording study subject vital signs, height, and weight ⁵ Distributing and collecting subject diaries and questionnaires

⁶ Performing other study specific procedures or tests as deemed appropriate

III. Assists with approved research subject recruitment, retention, and communications including:

¹ Conducting telephone screens

² Participating in research marketing activities such as health fairs

³ Building and maintaining department database of potential subjects

⁴ Scheduling study subject appointments

⁵ Making and receiving subject telephone calls; relaying appropriate information

IV. Maintains inventory of study-specific supplies and standard department-specific clinical supplies and work areas to assure protocol compliance and efficient workflow including:

1. Organizing clinical work areas

2. Counting and ordering lab kits and shipping materials

3. Checking for and replacing expired items

Clinical Research Coordinator II for Harvard Aging Brain Study - Massachusetts General Hospital

 

CLINICAL RESEARCH COORD. II - (3017901) Description Skills Clinical Research Coordinator II for Harvard Aging Brain Study - Massachusetts General Hospital,  Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Harvard Medical School.  Experienced research coordinator needed  to provide overall supervision of investigator-initiated studies and oversee various imaging protocols  and studies at Harvard Aging Brain Study at MGH and the Center for Alzheimer Research and  Treatment across MGH and BWH. Will recruit subjects for clinical trials, imaging, and other research  projects.  Will interface with the Massachusetts Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (MADRC) and  with several other study specific coordinators across multiple ongoing affiliated aging and Alzheimer’s  studies. Will perform neuropsychological testing investigating changes in cognition in normal aging and  early Alzheimer's disease. Responsibilities include: ·         Formulating and disseminating vigorous timetables across various imaging protocols; ·         Training and supervising operations of Research Coordinators and Research Assistants,  as well as volunteer staff ·         Coordinating lab activities; recommending protocol changes and possibility assisting  with writing protocols and manuscripts; overseeing all study meeting plans; monitoring and  evaluating procedure data. Recruiting and scheduling elderly/cognitively impaired participants, tracking participation  across studies in centralized database, and scheduling multiple visits, including imaging studies.  Will liaise with members of various elder agencies to focus on recruiting subjects from the  diverse elderly population in the Greater Boston area. Will develop recruitment materials under the supervision of the  Principal Investigator, and assist with screening of subjects for aging and AD related studies. Will be responsible for data collection and data entry, and will assist study doctors as needed. Skills include: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. High level of organization with excellent attention to detail. Familiarity with basic statistics.  Demonstrated high level of discretion, as some studies involve highly sensitive and private information. Ability to make independent and effective decisions, to interpret information and protocol requirements. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to oversee the work of others. Ability to interact comfortably with older subjects and dementia patient in a medical environment.   Qualifications B.A., B.S. required; Masters Level with strong background in psychology, neuroscience, or pre-medical desirable.
